Briefing Points – i) Zack Oleksik, who lead and help form BlackRock’s Investor’s Global Stewardship group has left the post; ii) Under Mr. Oleksiuk, the group established BlackRock’s corporate governance guidelines and practices for corporate and individual investors; iii) No replacement for Mr. Oleksiuk has been named.

Briefing Points – i) Alex Struc, the head of ESG portfolio management at PIMCo is scheduled to leave the firm at the end of October; ii) Mr. Struc will be replaced by Mike Amey, who also replaced him earlier as pm of 2 ESG bond funds; iii) Mr. Struc was replaced as part of broader firm management changes – he was pm of the PIMCo Total Return ESG and the PIMCo Low Duration ESG funds.

Recommended Actions – Many changes at all levels of management are occurring at PIMCo. While their fixed-income capabilities remain, it’s questionable and more than a little discomforting as to whether these changes don’t reflect more serious displacements. Investors would be well-served to heighten their face-to-face oversight and focus on indications of underlying discontent at the firm.

Event – Tortoise is acquired by private equity firm Lovell Minnick.

Briefing Points – i) Private equity firm Lovell Minnick has agreed to buyout Tortoise, the manager of the Tortoise Water Fund ETF; ii) The acquisition deal includes joint ownership with Tortoise employees and other institutional investors.; iii) The fund’s portfolio management team will remain intact and there will be no changes to its investment process.
